Cerulean Winds - Aspen wind farm project

The Community Council is looking for help and advice from local residents on how we should manage problems created by this project and also the potential benefits from the developer. The Community Council will host one or two public meetings during June to seek your feedback. The first meeting will be in the Skateraw Hall on Thursday 11th June, 7pm to 9pm. You may also email us at planning@nmccc.org.uk if you prefer.

The area outlined in red on the map shows the projected corridor of the route for cables passing Newtonhill.

There are three main aspects to this project that we would like you to consider: construction phase, built infrastructure, and community benefits provided by the developer.

Construction Phase

Cables will be run underground from landfall north of Newtonhill through to the Hurlie substation near Stonehaven. These cables will require a trench to be dug or conduits to be drilled. Work at Chapelton and the houses on the moor has shown that months of rock breaking may be required. New temporary and permanent roads may be required.

Built infrastructure

The cables will need to be joined every 500 to 1000 metres. This will require an accessible structure of some sort. A second substation will be built that will require a footprint of 300 by 350 metres (about the size of 16 championship football pitches), along with the necessary access roads.

Community benefits provided by the developer

With this much disruption within our Community Council area, what do you think that the developers must do to compensate the community?
